The U.S. presidential election is just two weeks away, with former President Donald Trump representing the Republican Party and Vice President Kamala Harris standing as the Democratic candidate. Notably, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has made a substantial donation to an NGO backing Harris. News reports have surfaced highlighting Gates' contribution of $50 million (Rs. 420 crores) to 'Future Forward,' an organisation supporting Harris.

While Bill Gates has not publicly endorsed any candidate, it’s been suggested that he privately expressed concerns about the potential consequences of Trump securing a second term. In response to the election, Gates described this race as unlike any other, stating, "I support those working to improve healthcare, reduce poverty, and address global conflicts. I've collaborated with politicians for years, but this election feels very different." Gates' ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, has also publicly endorsed Harris.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden recently withdrew from the race, throwing his support behind Harris. In a speech at a Democratic campaign event in Concord, New Hampshire, Biden criticised Trump as a threat to democracy. "Trump should be politically locked out," Biden declared, referencing how Trump’s supporters chanted 'lock her up' against Hillary Clinton in 2016. Biden's recent remarks were a call to protect constitutional safeguards from Trump's influence.
